Life is a zoo

We went to the zoo today with the intention of watching some wild and exotic animals. Once there we found the people much more interesting and worth studying. So we sat down on a bench and instead of staring at a seemingly empty leopard cage we stared at the people passing us by. We saw mostly grumpy faces being carried around by exhausted parents, young people in love permanently attached to each other, wifes constantly nagging their poor husbands, school kids behaving like a bunch of chimpanzees, small children dripping ice creams all over themselves, babies screaming because they were too hot and bothered. And in the middle of all this - Elijah, 7, autistic. He smiled at many of the above mentioned  people but hardly got a smile back. When he went to sniff at a man, the guy nearly jumped out of his shoes. Elijah was great. It was a big challenge for him and he did mastered it so well. Unfortunately only we saw it but for Elijah that always is enough. What Elijah liked best at the zoo? The sign explaining all about the amur leopards! One cool kid, my son!
